   Sunday, September 22, 2002
today, i went to Chinatown, with mah buddies from high school.
and we had a blast.
ok, hindi naman a blast, but we had good fun.
we went to the hopia stores of Eng Bee Teen and Holland and stocked up on a lifetime's supply of hopia and mooncake
well at least Herbie did.

and then we went trawling for original Hong Kong VCD's and South Korean. I picked up King of Beggars and Kings of Comedy, both starring Stephen Chow, the latter being directed by him. I hope they are as good as God of Cookery and Shaolin Soccer, but even if they aren't, they should be good fun. I bought the former for 150 pesos and the latter for 170 pesos. The good news is that they have Korean movies, too. But they didn't have Joint Security Area. They did have Friends, Guns and something, Attack the Gas Station and Barking Dogs Never Bite. I didn't check out other countries' VCD's though.

I love Chinatown! Its like taking a break in another country. The culture, the color, the food. yup, the food, i don't normally like Chinese food. but the noodle houses are great! we found a new one Buenavides street. That can give Hap Chan a run for its money. Hap Chan is still good, but this one was better. and cheaper. you can be assured i'll be back on Buenavides street again soon. Saraaaaap! I also bought three packets of Hopia Baboy.

We also trudged down to Quiapo. I am getting pretty good at finding my way around this area. Though we weren't able to find any of the legendary DVD stalls. I did get a glimpse of the old movie theaters at Odeon and Universal on Avenida. But I got too tired to walk to there. I think they were showing Tukaan.

All in all, I think this reconaissance was a success. and i'll find those DVD's next time! =)
