WHY I HATE MARTIN SCORSESE

Whenever you talk to someone from film school, they always say that the best director in the world is Martin Scorsese. And they say the best movie in the world is Taxi Driver or Apocalypse Now or Francis Ford Coppola. Why is that? Why is it always about such pain? Why is it if you go to any film school from NYU to Tel Aviv, from Beijing to Manila, its always Scoresese, Scorsese, Scorsese. What is it with this guy? Frankly I think he sucks! Considering I’ve only seen Taxi Driver though. Why? Why is it always the painful movie? Recently its been Trainspotting or Tarantino or maybe even before A Clockwork Orange. Frankly I think these movies suck. Not that they are bad but I’ve seen better. What’s wrong with Robert Rodriguez? Kevin Smith? Or even worse, Michael Bay? Well maybe coz its this, during the time their teachers were taught, they only knew about Scorsese. And fine. He may have been the greatest director around in the 70’s but we are in the 90’s. And so it is time to make space for Tykwer, Lee, Woo and gosh darnnit, Aronofsky! Time to get off the ole high horse, people, time to accept the new! And what’s this I hear about David Fincher? Hehehe =)

I have the same beef to pick with Soderbergh. What’s the big deal? I liked Traffic. That’s it. I haven’t seen Sex, Lies and Videotape though.

I hate Chris Columbus.

I like Spielberg. Not Spielberg of recent times but Spielberg of yesteryore.

And what’s up with Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Robin Williams, Anthony Hopkins.

Heck, let’s even make sama Edward Burns, Gary Oldman, Ralph Fiennes.

Why are these actors being wasted?

And what’s the deal with Julianne Moore. She’s ho-hum. What’s the deal with Marky Mark (and maybe before Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore, but I like em more now =)

What’s the deal with rachel anne cooke or freddie prinze or buffy (but I have to admit, buffy’s a babe)

Why can’t hollywood create better actors or use better directors.

Maybe I’m just bitching. Maybe I’m just getting old.

But I want better movies!!! =)
