I saw Daredevil for the third time again kanina. And I still loved it. It took me some time to get into it again, but once I got to the final battle scene, I was all into it. Asteeg talaga that movie. It's my kind of movie. I may not be a comics fan or an action (meaning soldier of fortune type) fan, but this is the way movies should be made, in my opinion.
I'm an outlaw... hehehe...
That DMX movie is starting to look better and better, the more I see it. But I'll probably resist seeing it, unless pushed by someone else. The best scenes are probably the one in the trailer. I keep on forgetting the words of the song.
By the way, did I mention that I found Two Weeks Notice one of the best romantic movies since When Harry Met Sally? And this movie was so much better than Thomas Crowne Affair, which for me had a similar premise, a rich boy using his riches to wow a girl. Except that Hugh Grant's character seemed to be more comfortable with his money, while Pierce Brosnan's character seemed a bit noveau riche. I wonder if it's possible to be new rich without acting noveau riche. I guess it's possible. It's just that the noveau riche are so maingay about it. I guess the noveau riche have to exist, or people like Tim Yap wouldn't have a job. hehehe.
What else?
I love my MTRCB card. I get to watch movies again and again without having to pay a cent. Well maybe for parking and a little food, so the mall still makes money. I watched Maid in Manhattan yesterday, by myself, coz Margie had seen it already. And frankly it sucked. Which was kind of surprising because I expected more from Wayne Wang, who directed Joy Luck Club. Maybe he is one of those director's who needs a good script to be good. One gem in the movie though was Bob Hoskins, he played his English butler role to a T. J. Lo did pretty well and so did Ralph Fiennes. So I guess it was really the script. If you want to see a good hotel romance movie watch For Love Or Money or The Concierge, as it was shown in the states, starring Michael J. Fox and Gabrielle Anwar. Cheezy but good. Made me want to become a hotelier *wink*.
Am looking forward to Chicago, not because I think I'll like it, but so I'll have a new film to rant about. hehehe. But who knows, I might like it. I didn't think I'd like The Hours, but I thought that movie did rock. Much the same for Punch, Drunk, Love, I didn't think I'd like it, but I liked it very much. What else? Adaptation. I only saw parts of it recently. I don't think it's as good as Being John Malkovich, but it had redeeming moments. I'll reserve my final judgment when I see it in totality.
I am conceptualizing a script, that will be similar to Volcano High and Battle Royale, but it will deal more with the cellular phone wars. Imagine a world ruled by Smart and Globe, and the soldiers that will be living under it. I can't reveal more. But it will be a hoot. Hopefully :D
What else?
The weather has been great recently and because of that, everybody is in a good mood. It is so nice to eat, drink or smoke al fresco. greenbelt is so the place to be right now, with this weather. i'm still a rockwell fan though, less pretentious. but greenbelt is a great place to people watch.
I also watched the Guru, which was pretty weak, but it had redeemable moments. We, Filipinos, can make movies like that. Working Title's Films though are starting to become pretty formulaic, ever since Brassed Off (if they did that) or at least Full Monty. People succeeding against the odds. Getting quite droll, if you ask me. You can succedd against the odds, but not in exactly the same way, every movie.
Am reading the Signs article again in Premiere Mag, and it now gives me more respect for M. Night Shymalan. I should watch Signs and maybe even Unbreakable. I should also watch Kids by Harmony Korine.
Brash will be re-opening on April 5, with a lot of hoopla. I hope to make it the indie event to be at, hopefully.
We are going to Hong Kong for the Film Festival from April 8 to 23. Hopefully Tikoy can get us tickets. If he does, it will be a hoot.
We are also launching the Brash magazine, which will feature Robert Quebral, which will hopefully coincide with the Premiere of his first film, Sex Drive. Starring, gasp! Maui Taylor and that Katya girl. Viva is making a lot of money. Hopefully Quark's movie will be coming out soon, too. Let's pray for it's success.
We shot with Lav Diaz at DZRH a few days back, Costello and I. Costello actually shot, I just took digital pics for myself. It's nice hanging out with Lav. He's a great guy. It seems he quit smoking, drinking and eating meat, all on the same day, when he found out his sister died. And he started making movies ever since. Discipline, he calls it, discipline. To be able to quit all three things instantly and never do it again. That is discipline.
I would just like to promote Books for Less, which is across CRC, across Hotshots. I sat on this for awhile, so I could get more copies of Giant Robot magazine, but we must share and share alike. Books for Less is a great concept. They get used books from the States and sell them here at lower price. Asteeg. I love em already. I bought Borra a copy of Satanic Verses. Hmmm, I think I've mentioned that before.
I also judged for a Marynoll / Miriam short film competition. The technicals were pretty good for college students. For one thing, I could understand the dialogue. It is great to see the students work so hard for their film. It's also good for business *grin*.
So what else is planned for this week.
Star Trek Sci Fi Convention tomorrow at the former Louie's THX. Nemesis will show that nite.
On Thursday, we are shooting a segment of Xtra Xtra for Paolo B. So Paolo, if you are reading this entry, please look away, coz it's supposed to be a surprise. hehehe.
Saturday, we are going to Tagaytay.
And Friday, nothing planned. I want to watch Chicago though, and whateve else is showing this week. Maybe Tears of the Sun na rin.
