a random theory

running through my head.

when a true director or writer becomes famous, people tend to flock to him. but in order to become hip, they must recognize and adulate his next movie or book as great, just to say they were there first, even if that next effort is not as great.

so one must read or watch the movies or books that made him great, not just for the groupies who came after.

do you get what i'm saying?

case in point

Spirited Away. I didn't like this movie. But I loved my Neighbor Totoro and Kiki's Delivery Service.

another case in point

i loved Big Me by Michael Moore. I wonder if Bowling will be just as good.

of course it could also be a case of if you've seen them once, you've seen them all.

like my favorite Kitano is Brother. and some people say that might be one of his worst. but that's the way I was introduced to Kitano style.

so in one case, if you've seen one, you've seen em all. and the first one you saw, becomes your most powerful experience.

and the other case is simply groupie behavior.

mad max 3 i like more than mad max 2. of course i saw mad max 3 first. a case of the former.

i liked lock, stock more than snatch. my cousin like snatched more. so it is also a case of the former.

i hope i'm making sense. i'm just too lazy to make more of it. haha!
